Scaleform Corporation and Fontworks have partnered to co-market Fontworks fonts in scaleable vector graphic form for exclusive use with Scaleform's GFx rich media user interface and vector graphics engine. The agreement is intended to enhance font quality and workflow for Japanese console and PC developers and their end users. Scaleform GFx uses hardware-accelerated vector graphics rendering, and features EdgeAA anti-aliasing technology to enable precision typeface outlines. Previously, Fontworks licensed its OpenType fonts via its Leading Edge Type Solution license program to developers and publishers in Japan. The licenses have restricted fonts to bitmap format, though, forcing developers to select between either large file sizes or reduced quality. Under the new agreement, LETS fonts can be used in vector format via ScaleForm GFx at no additional fee. The company says the fonts are scalable to any size on the game screen and are resolution-independent with HD gaming in mind. "Our joint initiative with Scaleform, the leading solution for video game user interface design, enables Japanese customers to use their existing processes while augmenting their capabilities," says Fontworks Incorporated CEO Fumikazu Matsuyuki. "It is our pleasure and objective to offer the best solutions and more convenience for video games developers and publishers." Scalefore president and CEO Brendan Iribe adds, "We are honored to align ourselves with Fontworks, the industry leader for fonts in the Japanese game industry. This agreement demonstrates both companies' strong commitment to not only meet customer requirements but advance the craft of game development for Japanese publishers."
