Unique flower for everyone on the planet!

The idea was simple. Create something of beauty that is unique to each person based on personal information. In this case we decided to create a unique flower based on a person's name and date of birth. http://www.myflower.com.

The idea was simple, but defining the vision for what the initial form of the product would take made us realize just how big the possibilities were. First, there is no good online virtual flower in existance whose market we could analize to give us a framework. We had a long list of questions about how best to define our product and no clear avenues for getting clear answers to those questions.

Specifically for me, I needed to know what form the flowers should take.

* Should we focus on creating high rez and render quality images, or is video game quality good enough?

* Do we go for ultra-realistic flowers, or cartoony?

* Should they animate or is still frame good enoug for launch?

* Do we need to launch with user to flower interactions, or can it just be a non-interactive work of art?

In the end, we decided to target what would be interesting to us and hope that people everywhere would respond. For me, this meant that they had to be intereactive. I think seeing a beautiful virtual flower is really interesting, but if it animates and responds to your touch, this brings it far closer to reality for the user.
