MMO, social, mobile and free-to-play games had their night at the Game Developers Online Choice Awards in Austin on Wednesday evening. What follows are the awards, updated live as they are presented.
"I just want to say thank you to all our players out there and the hard working teams at Zynga. thanks a lot guys," said a representative from Zynga.
"I'd call out the executive producer who actually launched the game, Rich Vogel, and the entire team at BioWare Austin. The entire team should be up there, not mine."
"Thank you. Online games go from good to great when they have a great community, and League of Legends is really lucky to have such a community. They test our game for us, they cosplay our characters...and from time to time they even suggest new features. Hard to believe."
"Thanks to all the developers who have worked on World of Warcraft throughout the years. In particular I want to thank the team that created vanilla WoW about 8 years ago. These are the people who laid the foundation for the subsequent success of WoW... We've learned a lot over the last eight years, and we've learned that the World of Warcraft community is the glue that holds it all together." - Frank Pierce, co-founder of Blizzard.
"Thank you. First I'd like to thank the executive team for making such a great company to work at and continuing the effort to make an even better company." "Thanks to a huge cast of amazing sound designers and production people... we all share equally in this award."
"We have a very talented art team... but I'd like to call out two people in particular. Jeff Dobson... and Arnie Jorgensen, our concept artist..."
"On behalf of Journey, I accept this award for Online Innovation." - Ceremony host Mike Goslin of Rebel Entertainment, sarcastically (no one from thatgamecompany was present to accept).
"I don't feel like I deserve this. But, I'm happy to pretend that I do. I want to say thank you to all those people whose credit I'm taking. Many of you are here in the room, but it's 16 years worth of names. You all know who you are. Instead I just wanted to say some things for everybody in the room. First, don't make my mistakes. I've made many. You've played them. Make new ones. Listen and learn, especially from your players. Share it all back. Don't settle. Dare, instead. Love what you do. But a hard-won lesson here: Love your family more. Spend time with them too. In theory I've got more years ahead of me than behind me, so I've got to figure out what to do next. I'll think of something."
"We really wanted to thank the players for this. We wanted to thank the players for their votes, but also for playing with us. I also wanted to thank the team at Riot for working so hard and keeping their minds where they should be: on what the players want."
"I've had the priviledge of working with the most talented engineers of my career since joining BioWare Austin, so this goes out to those guys." - Chad Roberts, studio tech director.
"I wanted to thank a group of teams at Riot who often gets overlooked in this industry...the guys who keep their eyes on our network operations 24/7... those are the guys who let us basically while the plane is mid-air allow the developers to upgrade the engines. We've literally built the whole company around the idea that players would enjoy a game that's always fresh and evolving and updating, and this award is an amazing recognition of that."
"It was a long journey to get there, and a lot of people. It's a huge game, the biggest thing I can imagine to do, this project. A lot of effort went into it." - Former executive producer Rich Vogel, who was, touchingly, brought on stage by the current team members in attendance to accept the award with them.
