California-based mobile outfit Storm8, developer and publisher of over 45 titles including Bubble Mania and Monopoly Bingo, has reportedly been hit with layoffs.

Although the news hasn't been confirmed by the studio, a number of developers -- some of whom say they've been directly affected -- have tweeted about "massive" job cuts.

Founded in 2009 by former Zynga designer, Garrett J. Remes and a group of Facebook engineers, Storm8 currently pulls in over 50 million monthly active users, and has rolled out games in over 155 countries.

We've reached out to the studio to verify the news.

Update: Storm8 CEO and co-founder Perry Tam has confirmed to Gamasutra that 130 employees have been laid off as the studio looks to streamline and refocus its mobile game operations.

"We believe having a leaner organization with sharper focus is essential to win in the growing $40 billion mobile games market. As such, we've made the very difficult decision to realign resources and part ways with approximately 130 talented colleagues," said Tam.

"We truly appreciate everyone's hard work and dedication to Storm8 over the years. Moving forward, a more streamlined Storm8 will build off a strong foundation and be better positioned to support our existing games and successfully bring new games to market."
