A team of developers who are independently working on a spiritual successor to the ill-fated MMO City of Heroes have been talking to publisher (and series owner) NCsoft about the possibility of utilizing the franchise name for an official CoH sequel. City of Heroes was shut down back in 2012, while dozens of staff were laid off. However the game's community called for support for the game once more, and in 2013 a team of fans called Missing Worlds Media ran a successful Kickstarter for a game called City of Titans. In a forum post this week, Missing Worlds president Nate Downes revealed that his team has been in talks with City of Heroes publisher NCsoft, and that NCsoft is considering letting the team make an official sequel to City of Heroes. The current proposal involves NCsoft spinning off the City of Heroes IP into is own company, and then licensing the IP to Missing Worlds to make City of Titans a full sequel, that can potentially reference the original game. The long and winding story can be found here. Note that nothing appears to be set in stone right now, but rather, NCsoft is merely considering the option.
