Animated extravaganza Cuphead has sold over 2 million copies since launching September 29.

The colorful, notoriously tricky platformer shifted 1 million copies during its first two weeks on shelves, but has now doubled that total before the end of the year.

Developer Studio MDHR broke the positive news in a short blog post, and expressed surprise at the Xbox One and PC title going double platinum.

"Even in our wildest dreams, we never thought our crazy little characters would be embraced by this many fans from around the world and we are continuously humbled by your support," reads the blog.

"So to everyone who has drawn fan art, composed memes, performed songs, conquered challenge runs, streamed their playthrough, or just played Cuphead and had a good time, we love and appreciate all of you from the bottom of our hearts."
