So what do you do when you are relaxing on a beach? Well, you have time to read a lot of great articles! The internet is full of articles. Sometimes you pass by one that is worth the read. It could be possible I stumbled upon one of these articles or someone tipped me by email about them. I describe 5 of them that I find very usefull for development and the production process of games.

Lobster's Kickstarter guide for games

A great (large) article filled with tips for game developers that want to fire-up a Kickstarter project. This guy did a lot of 'project backing'. He also helped a lot of projects setting up their Kickstarter campaings. He describes the complete proces of making the video, setting up the reward tiers and even tells you how to return to Kickstarter after funding failed to reach it's goal. I recommend this article to everyone thinking about doing a crowd sourced funding campaign like this!

Greenlight post-mortem

Want to sell your game on Steam? Greenlight is the new way to pitch your project to the Steam Community. This guy explains how they did their campaign on Greenlight. He talks about the proces during the campaign itself. It's great to read some of his tips and how he prevents us making mistakes. A short but powerfull read!

Flat Design versus Skeuomorphism

As you all might know Apple launched their new interface design yesterday. With this they try to play allong with the hype of this design trend called "Flat Design". This article explains the differences between their previous design trend called "Skeuomophism". It helps you understand how we all interpret certain symbols and the way they design them. It's not game development specific, but I think it's usefull to understand intrepretation by players and our systems in games. Worth the read!

App Icon Design

This article helps us understand the ways to create beautiful App Icons. Again, this is not only suitable for game development but to Apps in general. It explains how we create better and more striking App Icons which is very important to get noticed in the App or Google Store.

Why Facebook is blue

Why do companies choose certain colors for their products? This Article explains which colors provoke a set of feelings and confidence in the product. How this is greatly marketable by just choosing the right color. It also helps us notice why some products fail to achieve their goal in communicating to their users because they chose the wrong color pallette for their products. In games we have the same design rules to follow if we want to explain our players what type of game they are playing. It's great to have this knowlegde acquired while developing your games.
