Sword & Sworcery EP and Super Time Force developer Capybara Games has indefinitely delayed its long-awaited roguelike-like adventurer, Below

The Xbox One and Windows exclusive was initially announced at E3 2013, and had been expected to release this year.

In a recent blog post, however, the Capy team said "a lot of soul searching" led to the realization that the game just isn't ready.

The issue, according to the post, is one of quality-control, and although Below is finished in some respects it still needs a fair amount of fine-tuning and polish.

"We knew the game was there, and we’re super proud of it, but we also knew it needed more time to make sure it lives up to our studio’s standards, and the quality that you expect from our games," wrote the studio.

"Making games is hard but rewarding work. Accepting, even after this long development, that the game needs more time is difficult, but it’s important that we are honest with ourselves as creators."

With that in mind, Capy will be going dark so it can finish up the title "without compromise."

The team plans to fly under the radar until they're ready to give fans a major update and issue a firm release date.
