Perennial spender Embracer Group has acquired Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Planescape: Torment developer Beamdog through its Aspyr Media subsidiary.

Aspyr purchased Beamdog, which will operate as an independent studio within the group, for an undisclosed fee.

Beamdog was founded in 2009 by Bioware leads Trent Oster and Cameron Tofer and is best known for working on role-playing games that leverage the Dungeons & Dragons license.

The company will continue to be led by Oster post-acquisition and will collaborate closely with Asypr to develop its newly-announced RPG, MythForce, which is due to launch in early access on the Epic Games Store later this month.

"Beamdog is a tremendously talented group that we’ve admired for a long time. Their development philosophy and studio vision are perfectly aligned with ours," said Ted Staloch, CEO of Aspyr, commenting on the deal.

"We look forward to seeing them realize their ambition with MythForce while maximizing the long-term potential of an incredible archive of classic games."
