Indie outfit Frost Giant Studios has secured $25 million in Series A funding to create a new real-time strategy title.
The company was established in 2020 by a group of former Blizzard developers and is currently working on an RTS for "die-hard fans and new players alike."
The investment round was led by South Korean publisher Kakao Games, with participation from previous investors including Bitkraft Ventures, Global Founders Capital, and Riot Games. New investors Gaingels and Mantis Venture Capital also joined the fold.
Frost Giant said the cash will be used to expand its headquarters, make new hires, and purchase tech upgrades. The company intends to officially announce its debut title later this year, and CEO Tim Morten says the project will hark back to the company's roots.
"We are grateful to Kakao Games and our other investors who share our vision for the future of the real-time strategy genre," commented Morten, who prevously worked on Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty as production director.
"We plan to stay true to our roots and give RTS players the competitive experience they’ve been waiting for, while also looking for ways to innovate and welcome first-time players to our universe."
The latest investment means Frost Giant has raised $34.7 million to-date.
