Oculus CEO donates $31M to University of Maryland for computer science building

Brendan Iribe, the CEO and co-founder of Oculus VR, is donating $31 million to the University of Maryland to build a computer science building, with a focus on virtual reality tech. According to the Associated Press, the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Innovation will be designed for virtual reality, augmented reality, computer vision and robotics. $1 million of this total will also go towards building the Brendan Iribe Scholarship in Computer Science at the university. Oculus co-founder Michael Antonov is also donating $4 million to the university, while Iribe's mother, Elizabeth Iribe, is giving $3 million. The AP notes that Iribe's $31 million donation is "the largest gift in university history." Iribe dropped out of the University of Maryland in his freshman year, after he decided to create his own startup Scaleform. After stints at Autodesk and Gaikai, he helped found Oculus VR in 2012.
