Report: Movoto maps the most torrented games in America

Update: Torrent Freak reports that Movoto's maps do not accurately reflect the torrent data it surveyed, and posits that researchers may have misread the data -- which itself may contain some fake torrent files. We've reached out to the real estate company for more information on the veracity of their research. Original story: Real estate company Movoto likes to post geographic infographics (infogeographics?) to its blog, and a recent entry addressing U.S. torrenting habits by state has some interesting takeaways for game developers. If Movoto's data is accurate, Kansas is a hotbed of game torrenting and -- while the lion's share of America is downloading copies of Watch Dogs -- an indie affair like Garry's Mod is one of the most popular torrented games in the biggest state in the country. In the post, Movoto representative Chris Kolmar lays out a series of U.S. maps that seem to show how the most popular torrent traffic travels through states and which states are torrenting the most movies, TV shows and video games. The company created the maps based on the location of file seeding nodes for the top 300 most popular torrents at the time of survey. Movoto claims to have surveyed hundreds of copyrighted games, movies and TV shows torrented through nearly 4 million nodes by nearly 3 million unique IP addresses.
