A group of Riot Games veterans have formed Wonderstorm, a new television and game studio with a focus on "story and play."

The fledgling outfit was quietly opened in 2016 by a trio that includes Riot's former creative director, Aaron Ehasz, who was also the co-executive producer and writing showrunner behind the acclaimed animated series, Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Ehasz is joined by Justin Richmond, who led a game development team at Riot and previously served as game director on Naughty Dog's celebrated Uncharted series. Rounding off the trio is Justin Santisteven, former head of finance for Riot's research and development division.

Wonderstorm will focus on television animation and video game production, and has already partnered with streaming giant Netflix to product an original animated series that will debut in 2018. The company also intends to build a "triple-A quality" video game set in the same world as its Netflix Original.

The studio was established with the help of founding investor MWM (formerly Madison Wells Media), which hopes to eventually help Wonderstorm develop and produce experiences in other mediums including film, live events, and virtual and augmented reality.
