The Atlanta, Georgia branch of the Savannah College of Art and Design has opened a new Digital Media Center, allowing students to earn first-hand experience in game development and digital animation. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution notes that the three-story, 60,000-square-foot center houses classroom space dedicated to courses in game design, animation, and game development, among other fields. The Digital Media Center's opening arrives in response to increased demand for greater campus space dedicated to the digital arts. "The few of those courses we offered were taught in classrooms that also served as the home for English and civics," associate dean of film and digital media Matthew Maloney told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "That just wasn’t working for our students. We needed to have our own space where students could get their hands dirty and explore the different art forms." The Center also features space for digital art exhibits, as well as a library that covers gaming history from the industry's inception to the modern era. Classroom tasks will involve students studying the games on display at the gaming history library, and then redesigning them to fix flaws and enhance playability.
