Two startups with veterans from notable developers like Rovio, Supercell, and Remedy have joined up. Next Games is currently working on a Walking Dead mobile game.
Newsbrief: Next Games, developer of the upcoming mobile game The Walking Dead: No Man's Land, has acquired Helsinki GameWorks, a studio it's already been collaborating with. Next Games was founded by staff who previously worked at Rovio, Disney, and Supercell; the team at Helsinki GameWorks has Rovio, Remedy, Digital Chocolate and Guerrilla Games DNA, and booted up just this September. Next Games secured $6 million in funding earlier this year; in July, it also announced plans to team up with movie studio Lionsgate (The Hunger Games), which also invested in the company. "Joining forces is a logical move, as our first games will launch very soon and the next productions are being ramped up. The veteran team and IP from Helsinki GameWorks will be a huge asset," said Teemu Huuhtanen, CEO of Next Games, in a statement.
