Yahoo Japan has launched a web-based games platform that'll serve up HTML5 titles alongside larger console-style efforts.

As reported by Japan Times, the new service is called Game Plus and will use cloud-streaming to let users play games on desktops and smartphones without the need for downloads.

Yahoo has already garnered the support of 52 game publishers including Square Enix and Koei Tecmo, and will use those connections to fill out the Game Plus roster with popular console titles like Final Fantasy X.

"Cloud streaming means you no longer need a console," said Gaku Sudo, head of Yahoo Japan’s Game Plus service. "As long as you have a smartphone or even a PC with low specs, you can use our service through multiple devices."

Game Plus currently boasts a 39-game strong lineup, including a mixture of free-to-play titles supported by in-app purchases and premium efforts.

Bigger titles like The Last Remnant, Final Fantasy XIII, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will no doubt make use of the service's cloud-streaming tech.
