The Heritage Foundation's manifesto for the possible next administration could do great harm to many, including large portions of the game development community.
Gamasutra's alt video game blog GameSetWatch, rounds up this week's offbeat news, including The Room director/star Tommy Wiseau's new video game show, Silent Hill: Downpour's theme by Korn, and more.
[Every week GameSetWatch editor-in-chief Eric Caoili rounds up the latest news/media for obscure and offbeat games from Gamasutra's sister site and alternative video game blog.] Over at alt video game blog GameSetWatch, we shared a number of fun stories during the past week, including The Room director/star Tommy Wiseau's new video game show, Silent Hill: Downpour's theme by Korn, Capcom's latest Final Fight blunder on iOS, and more. GameSetWatch's highlights from the last week: Tommy Wiseau Has A New Internet Show, And It's About Video Games - Like many longtime Tommy Wiseau fans, I too have become a bit weary of his fame. What made The Room so special is how it's a genuine affair, an attempt at a legit serious movie. When he tries to be funny on purpose, it's not quite the same. But even I'm willing to toss all cynicism aside and look forward to his new series, The Tommy Wi-Show. Behold The Korn x Silent Hill: Downpour Theme - Despite petitions begging Konami and Vatra to not let "nu metal" band Korn handle the theme song for Silent Hill: Downpour, the companies went ahead with the collaboration anyway, and debuted the track with this new Tokyo Game Show trailer. Capcom Bungles Final Fight On iOS...Again - Capcom's landmark arcade brawler Final Fight has arrived on the iPhone and iPod Touch. Wait, why does this seem so familiar? Oh, right, it's because Final Fight is already a part of the App Store's free-to-play Capcom Arcade compilation. That's odd. So what's different about this version of Final Fight? Link's Gold Record And More From Gallery 1988 (pictured) - Last week was the "Old School Video Game Show"'s opening at Gallery 1988: Venice. Pieces from the exhibition have been making the rounds all week long, like the selection of images we've collected for you here. Watch In Horror As An Atari 8-Bit Computer Implodes - Here's a little slice of hell that should give you some juicy nightmares tonight -- if you can sleep, that is. "Paperweight" is a homebrew program that claims to fry an Atari XE/XL's innards, presumably as its owner shrieks in terror. New Video Game Zine Alert: JumpButton - For those looking for something to add to their video game zine library, have you heard of JumpButton yet? Debuting it last weekend, editor Drew Taylor describes it as "a quarterly art/gaming/lifestyle magazine with a focus on the art and substance of videogame culture".
