Don't sell the Kinect short.

Why are core gamers so against the Kinect?

A lot of the core gaming audience is afraid that Kinect will not be able to handle the games they like.  All we saw at E3 were gesture based games that are targeted for the family.  I think these images have immediately closed the minds of the core gamer. However, I think that just the opposite.  I am willing to bet that there are many core games being developed that will be announced just before the release or shortly after.

Many of the core gamers believe that the Kinect is just not designed for us.  All we have seen so far are the games that require huge motions and gestures.  Some people are unable to see how a game like Call of Duty or Gears of War could be played without controllers. Based  upon what I’ve seen so far about the Kinect I think it could be done.

Last year we saw that Burnout Paradise could be played using the Kinect.  Moving your foot forward moved the car forward and placing your foot behind you put the car in reverse.   The same basic principles could be applied to movement in a first person shooter.   The Kinect has the capabilities to recognize voices.  Instead of cycling through a weapons inventory, you could just say “shotgun” or “frag grenade” to switch.

I think the masses have been selling the Kinect short.  I am going to reserve judgment until a few games have launched for it first.
