Level DesignerHeart Machine

Location: Los Angeles, California

We’re looking for talented, passionate people to become part of our small crew, to help build and shape something ambitious and completely unique from the ground up.

Although we work incredibly hard, our studio is not a crunch-factory - we like to live our lives, have holidays, and remain healthy throughout a project. Work-life balance is important.

Your Role

If you’re an incredibly capable level designer with ample spacial reasoning skills, a strong sense of storytelling and pacing and an artistic eye for great compositions, please reach out to us!

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the project lead to help compose a structure for numerous unique zones.

  • Help to concept and craft the feel and design standards for levels, environmental hazards and various in-world interactions.

  • Take the lead on specific regions of the game world, creating compelling layouts, moving a level design from concept to completion.

  • Create intense enemy encounters and other scripted sequences to bolster and bring to life our game world.

  • Work with our artists and designers to craft the narrative and gameplay needs and mechanics into each section.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge of Unreal 4, particularly working with Blueprints and other relevant toolsets for scripting.

  • Strong experience with 3D software - Maya preferred.

  • At least 2 years of experience with a portfolio to showcase specific successful designs.

  • Experience with play testers, with a firm grasp on how to conduct play test sessions whether individual or larger in scale.

  • Can process and implement player feedback appropriately.

  • Skilled with third person action games.

  • Basic scripting/programming language knowledge a plus.

  • Capable of learning new languages, technologies and systems.

  • Strong communication and collaborative skills during each part of the process.

  • Capable of working independently, keeping on-task and motivated.

  • Excited and able to work with a small, nimble team and participate in major decisions.

All full-time employees will be offered a robust medical package, including dental. Salary and bonus structure can be discussed upon interview. Ideally you’re located in Los Angeles, or at the least willing to relocate.
