Game Designer (Contract), Two Bit Circus

Location: Los Angeles, California

Want to Join the Circus?

We are looking for freelance Game Designer to us help us build and modify amazing games for the incredible micro-amusement park we are building over the next few months. Our game experiences combine casual games, narrative and physical elements (that may or may not include lasers, fire and robots… really!) and even VR!

You love games and can’t wait to build the future of entertainment.  You’ve pushed yourself to go deeper than get-it-done scripting, to understand how individual mechanics can be perfected to make a game feel “solid”. You see abstract algorithms, 3D math, complex state management, and optimization as exciting challenges, not necessary evils. And at the same time, you know that games get really exciting when they go beyond pixels and that is what you really want to build.

You’ll be a part of a small, tight-knit team where you’ll learn and adapt at a very rapid pace and become an integral part of our circus.

Local candidates prioritized.

Responsibilities

You’ll work closely with our game producer from concept through final product to:

  • Design small scale arcade games and skill games that combine physical and digital elements;

  • You will brainstorm concepts, create paper designs, prototype, and build games in Unity;

  • Must be able to rapidly prototype without an artist or engineer, but final games will be built with a small team;

  • Create 3D assets, concept drawings and other art for current games;

  • Must be hands-on in the development of the game through all stages;

  • Collaborate and communicate with the team to ensure quality;

  • Help maintain logs and records of game design and production;

Requirements

  • 3+ years of professional experience as Game Designer

  • 2+ completed projects through the entire life cycle

  • Proactive, results oriented mindset with high attention to detail and quality

  • Reliable schedule/time management skills

  • Ability to learn new tools and workflows with minimal supervision

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills

  • Four-year degree, or equivalent experience

  • Experience working in a start-up environment

  • Local applicants only

Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis

Extra bonus points for:

  • Experience working with arcade games

  • Any 3D modeling or coding experience

  • Rapid prototyping experience

  • Passion for video games and VR!

Benefits

  • Dog friendly workshop

  • Super creative work space

  • Monthly happy hours where we test out all our new games and inventions
