"Look for those opportunities to put yourself out there in front of folks and give them a chance to recognize you for what you can do. You'd be amazed how many times people notice you." - Pete Hines

I remember hearing those very words from the VP of PR and Marketing at Bethesda Softworks while he was chatting with Greg Miller on Kinda Funny Gamescast earlier this year. The reason this kind of insight and wisdom profoundly resonated with me as a young creative talent was that I remember being in a position where I had little to nothing under my belt and feared for my prospects as a professional game developer. I was initially one of those folks who felt strongly enthusiastic about creating content for and about games, but didn't do much to turn my passion into a tangible piece of work. In other words, I didn't walk the talk.

Fast forward to the present and I can safely say that I learned a great deal from my past bouts of indolence during my freshman and sophomore years in college. From the two dozen articles I penned on Gamasutra (as of writing) to the internship and presentation opportunities I had at Bethesda and GDC 2017 respectively, I dipped my feet into various endeavors that yielded auspicious and fruitful results and enabled me to grow as both a talent and individual.

It is indeed those experiences that I had the chance to talk about as of late with Matthew Squaire on his show dubbed "The Matturday Podcast". In the below episode, I expounded my experience as both a gamer and developer, as well as the many lessons I learned over the past years. Given my recent graduation from college and the various achievements I accrued since the start of the year, I feel like now is a good time to share with you the insight I have garnered from my time writing for and about games as well as designing them.

Let me know what you think of my article in the comments section, and feel free to ask me questions! I’ll do my best to get back to you as promptly as possible.
