Electronic Arts' DICE-developed Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has seen its demo downloaded 2 million times in its first five days available, the publisher says. According to EA, the figure, which combines downloads on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network, puts the Bad Company 2 demo on track to become the publisher's "fastest downloaded demo" ever. The publisher is also pleased with how PC beta signups have been going, claiming "hundreds of thousands" of users. "We couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is already in the hands of almost 2½ million gamers, and it hasn’t even shipped yet," says the game's senior producer, DICE's Patrick Bach. Bad Company 2 hits retail March 2 in North America and March 4 in Europe; the first-person shooter will run its demo until the end of February. Console versions have attracted a little controversy already, thanks to a multiplayer mode only available to those who pre-order the game at GameStop retailers. "This massive rush to experience the game early is proof positive that action gamers are looking for more. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 delivers on every front," promises Bach. "This is intelligent, strategic warfare that our competitors simply cannot replicate."
