After debuting at number two last week Square Enix’s Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles – Ring of Fates on the Nintendo DS has belatedly hit the number one spot - in a quiet week for sales in the Japanese charts. After selling 178,000 units in its first week, Crystal Chronicles was reduced to a total of 79,000 this week. The highest new entry of the week, at number two, was what will be known in the West as Bladestorm: The Hundreds’ Year War, with the PlayStation 3 version selling 59,000 units. A variation on Koei’s familiar Dynasty/Samurai Warriors template the game’s historical European setting is an attempt by the company to appeal to a wider Western audience, as well as its sizeable native market. The second highest new entry, at number three, is manga and anime tie-in Gintama on the PlayStation 2, with 57,000 units sold. Indeed, despite the generally low level of sales there have been several new entries this week, with fellow anime license One Piece: Gear Spirit on Nintendo DS at number five with 41,000 units sold. The final new entry in the top ten is the latest entry in Banpresto’s long-running role-playing series Summon Night, with the first Nintendo DS iteration selling 28,000 units at number seven. Other notable new entries in the top thirty include Beatmania IIDX 13: DistorteD for the PlayStation 2 at number twelve and Western hit Hitman: Blood Money on Xbox 360 at number twenty-nine.
