The game, developed by Ubisoft's Montreal studio on the company's proprietary Dunia engine for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, has received critical acclaim for its open-world elements and procedural systems. Ubisoft did not offer sales breakdown by platform. Particularly, Far Cry 2 is often noted for its fire propagation -- fire spreads realistically and can be used to create or exacerbate explosive chain reactions for strategic purposes. Gamasutra recently spoke to gameplay programmer Jean-Francois Lévesque in-depth on that feature, and how it "didn’t start as something really ambitious from the beginning." "The holiday quarter is off to a solid start with the successful launch of Far Cry 2," says Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, commenting on the game's sales performance. "The game is well on track to achieve our expectations for the year."
