After 41 weeks on sale, Activision's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has become the best-selling retail game ever in the United Kingdom. Infinity Ward's record-setting title takes over the position held til now by Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training (Brain Age in the U.S.) despite launching much more recently. That's according to Gfk Chart-Track, the arbiter of the UK's sales charts. The title has charted in the UK's top ten for 38 out of those 41 weeks; last week it didn't appear in the top 10, however. Activision had high ambitions for the game's sales from the beginning, promising the biggest launch in entertainment history. The game began breaking records from the day it hit shelves, grossing some $550 million in its first five days, a figure that tops prior video game record holder Grand Theft Auto IV. In the UK alone, it sold 1.23 million copies and grossed around £47 million ($77.85 million) on its opening day. Combined day one U.S. and UK sales were 4.7 million units.
