Officials from Sega have announced plans to bring the company's long running arcade racing series Sega Rally to the handheld market this fall, with a version planned to debut for the PSP alongside the previously announced versions for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in September. The game is currently being developed “from scratch” by Bugbear Entertainment, a studio best recognized for its Flatout series of over the top off road racing games. Sega notes that the game's development is also being guided by the company's own Sega Racing Studio in order to ensure that the PSP title retains the franchise's appeal and focus. Although little has been reveled up this point regarding the game's features, Sega has commented that the upcoming PSP title will support multiplayer features, both over a lcoal connections as well as online. While the Sega Rally series has seen representation on multiple video game consoles over the last twelve years, it is still perhaps best recognized for its 1995 arcade debut, where it stood out from other racing titles with its focus on vehicle handling across a variety of driving surfaces. The game was later released for the Sega Saturn, and has also had sequels and ports released for the PC, Game Boy Advance, PS2, Dreamcast, and N-Gage. Commented Guy Wilday, studio director at Sega Racing Studio, "The original Sega Rally is heralded as one of the all time great video games and this new installment on the PSP is a great example of updating a classic perfectly for today’s machines."
