Nintendo's newest sports title for Wii, Wii Sports Resort, has sold more than 500,000 units in the U.S. since its July 26 launch, the company announced today. According to Nintendo of America VP of sales and marketing Cammie Dunaway, this equates to one copy of the game sold every 1.5 seconds since it launched. The game is the first Nintendo first-party Wii title to employ the new MotionPlus peripheral, with which it ships bundled for $49.99, with additional MotionPlus accessories available separately for $19.99. The game features 12 "resort-themed" sports minigames like tennis, basketball, golf and bowling, that use the Mii avatars. It can be considered a follow-up to Wii Sports, which has sold over 45 million units globally and continues to chart -- according to Nintendo, it sold 1 million units worldwide just during the company's most recent fiscal quarter. Dunaway called the performance of this new iteration "a great start for a game that will have long-lasting appeal."
