Following a new distribution deal with Atari in North America, officials from Russian publisher 1C Company have announced the re-branding of Cenega Publishing as 1C Publishing EU, with the company continuing to focus on sales in central Europe. Czech company Cenega Publishing was founded in April 2002, with a number of divisions throughout continental Europe - with a particularly strong publishing and distribution presence in central European countries such as Poland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. It is best known for PC strategy games such as UFO: Aftermath and Korea: Forgotten Conflict. Cenega Publishing was acquired by 1C in May 2005, but it is only now that the company is being re-branded as 1C Publishing EU. The move follows 1C Company’s recent high profile deal with Atari to bring its product to North America, as elaborated on in a recent Gamasutra interview with international sales director Nikolay Baryshnikov. “1C has already opened two offices - one in the UK (1C UK) and the second one in China (1C Asia-Pacific) and we are looking forward to bringing our titles to the continental part of Europe. The main goal of our new EU office is to establish long-term relations with distributors and publishers and to offer our games to the European customers," said Baryshnikov. "We accomplished great success with building Cenega Publishing and making it a respected publisher on the gaming market. When we became part of the 1C group, our portfolio increased dramatically, and now we're offering tens of titles of all genres,” commented 1C Publishing EU managing director Daniela Buryankova.
