France's Allegorithmic has announced the availability of the latest version of its ProFX middleware, a tool which allows for procedural texturing. According to Allegorithmic, the tool allows studios to produce textures "up to two times faster than with regular techniques." The tool, which also produces texture data "500 to 1000 times smaller" than comparable textures produced through other means, offers flexible licensing depending on size and scope of the project involved, ranging from a small casual game to an MMO. ProFX has also entered into Epic Games' Partner Program for Unreal Engine 3 as well as being integrated into Microsoft's XNA tool suite. Allegorithmic highlights compatibility with Pixel Shader 2.0, integration with its MaPZone Pro 2.6 texturing tool, and an optimized core which increases performance on a wider variety of platforms as important features of the latest version of ProFX. "ProFX 2.6 demonstrates our commitment to provide innovative solutions that enable game studios to create richer environments and enter a new world of digital distribution without the hurdles of transferring and storing large texture files," said Dr. Sebastien Deguy, president and founder of Allegorithmic.
