A new research report from In-Stat/MDR is predicting that the PS2 will be the top seller this holiday season, with the race for second place to close to call between Microsoft and Nintendo.
In-Stat forecasts growth of 30 percent in console sales over last year's holiday shopping season, when 31.8 million units shipped worldwide and sales hit $7.4 billion Last month Sony announced that it had shipped 40 million PS2 consoles so far, far ahead of Xbox and Gamecube shipments. And with Microsoft and Nintendo now launching their online options for players, it's anyone's guess as to whether the monolithic Xbox Live service will prove more popular than the Gamecube online adapters that let players connect to publishers' servers.
