Event organizers have announced a call for papers for the upcoming Audio Mostly 2007 conference, scheduled to take place in Ilmenau, Germany on September 27-28. The second annual event, hosted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT, aims to bring together audio experts, content creators, interaction designers, and behavioral researchers in order to “explore the untapped potential of audio.” The purpose of the event, according to officials, is to “both describe and push the boundaries of sound-based interaction in various domains,” including both traditional and serious games. The event will include a particular focus on audio in “computer-based environments” such as video games, where officials note “the interaction abilities through and with sound are still underrepresented.” Organizers have designed the conference to explore new sound applications that “demand or allow for some kind of interactive response from their listener, particularly in scenarios where screens and keyboards are unavailable, unsuitable or disturbing.” Officials are currently accepting abstracts from those interested in presenting during Audio Mostly 2007 until June 15. Authors of accepted submissions will be notified by July 1, And final submissions are due on August 24. Some of the game-released areas of interest for the event include games designed around audio and sound, interactivity through sound, and sound design for games. Other potential topics include speech, semantic speech, music, sound analysis; music recommendations and user feedback; semantic audio processing; cognition of sound and music; new auditory user interfaces; spatial audio rendering; interactive composing & authoring of music; audio in teaching; sound in mobile applications; new developments for audio broadcasting, podcasting and audiobooks; and the future uses of sound.
