When I applied for my internship with Products for Robots, they asked me to write a sample press release for an upcoming game that looked interesting. After some googling and suggestions from friends, I decided on Beyond: Two Souls from Quantic Dream. The game has psychological thrills, supernatural powers, photo-realistic graphics, and characters played by an Academy Award-nominated actress- what's not to love?

I'm quite excited about this game for several reasons:

  1. I grew up with three younger brothers, and rarely had a chance to actually play video games. I never purchased a console for myself when I went off to school, and thus I am terrible at most games. Beyond: Two Souls, however, appears to be story-based rather than skill-based, and that is something I fully support.

  2. The technology behind this game is amazing. Looking at some of the videos of actors in motion-capture suits, as well as the fully-realized game scenes, is almost like looking at a movie. It's incredibly cool!

  3. I am thrilled that the main character of Beyond: Two Souls is a woman! She's also played by Ellen Page, who is quite talented and a personal favorite of mine.

  4. It's incredibly exciting to see games that don't fit within pre-established genres. There are so many talented and creative people in the gaming industry, and with the current level of technology there is so much freedom to make something completely original.

Beyond: Two Souls is set for release in Spring 2013, although the exact date was recently pulled from consideration. While I wait to hear more, I plan to check out Quantic Dream's Heavy Rain and other recommended games.
