According to a report by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) the number of global high-speed service subscribers grew 72% in 2002 to some 63 million. Korea is the country with the highest broadband penetration, with an estimated 21 broadband subscribers for every 100 inhabitants. Hong Kong ranked second and Canada was third. The US is 11th on the list with 6.9 subscribers per 100 people. DSL is the most commonly deployed platform (59%), followed by cable modems (39%), LANs, fixed-wireless, WLANs, and satellite technology.
