Opinion: How will Project 2025 impact game developers?

At its Captivate 2010 consumer press event in Hawaii, discussed in-depth elsewhere on Gamasutra Capcom revealed two new game announcements: Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, plus plans to bring three anticipated Japanese games Westward. In Bionic Commando Rearmed 2, which launches on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network [YouTube trailer], hero Nathan Spencer returns to face a new foe in a 3D sidescroller Capcom promises "improves upon the visual achievements of its predecessor". Notably, it adds to the traditional grappling-hook mechanic the ability for the character to jump, absent in its predecessor. The decade-old Marvel vs. Capcom cross-property fighting franchise finally gets a third installment for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in Spring 2011 [YouTube teaser video]. Rather than replicate earlier installments' old-school graphics, however, Capcom says it's building the game on its proprietary MT Framework, the same engine used in Resident Evil 5 and Lost Planet 2, aiming at a "moving comic" visual style. Capcom also revealed it will bring Okamiden, the DS-based sequel to cult favorite Okami, to the West, featuring similar brush stroke thematics and a miniaturized hero, Chibiterasu. Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes will be the first game in the major franchise to come to the West under that title, with a previous iteration receiving significant changes and being redubbed Devil Kings. The PlayStation 3 and Wii title, which launches in Fall 2010, being headed by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, producer of Devil May Cry 4 Finally, Westerners will also get Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective, a story-driven puzzler that follows a murder victim with phantom abilities aiming to regain his memories. The DS title is under the purview of Shu Takumi, who's known for creating the Ace Attorney games. In addition, Capcom announced extra content for upcoming Dead Rising 2 and Lost Planet 2, and for Street Fighter IV. In the case of Dead Rising 2, a prologue titled Case Zero will release ahead of the game's launch exclusively via Xbox Live. At the same time, Capcom revealed the popular zombie shooter will also feature co-op play when it launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC in North America on August 31. Street Fighter IV will add "Tournament Mode DLC and new costume packs, while Lost Planet 2 will get a new map pack coinciding with its May 11th launch.
