Capcom announced a major initiative for the seminal Resident Evil franchise on Wii, planning an Umbrella Chronicles sequel and two GameCube remakes exclusively for Nintendo's platform.
Just as Capcom's long-awaited Resident Evil 5 is set to launch on next-gen platforms, the company's announcing a major initiative for the seminal franchise on Wii. Capcom announced Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles, a sequel to Wii-exclusive on-rails shooter Umbrella Chronicles slated for this Winter. The company describes Umbrella Chronicles as "a huge success," and the sequel promises "a more in-depth co-op experience" and a story aimed at expanding on the plot of Resident Evil 2. At the same time, the company says it plans a new Resident Evil "Classics" line for Wii that will bring GameCube's Resident Evil and Resident Evil Zero to Nintendo's platform. They're planned as remakes tailored for the Wii controls, and each will be value-priced at $29.99. "We are very excited to be bringing the sequel to Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles to the Wii as it’s the perfect fit for the platform," said Capcom marketing VP Mona Hamilton. "We are always looking for new ways to give Capcom fans a chance to experience our games."
