Capcom has announced details of its forthcoming downloadable titles including pirate strategy game Plunder and alternate-universe WWII title 1942: Joint Strike, as well as a forthcoming Xbox Live beta test for _Super Street Fighter II Turb
Capcom has announced two new downloadable titles: Plunder, for Xbox Live Arcade, PlayStation Network and Windows PC, and 1942: Joint Strike for XBLA and PSN. Capcom says 1942: Joint Strike, slated to release in Summer 2008, "takes inspiration and influence from the ‘80s 194X series of World War II-themed vertical arcade shooters," but will "stand out as its own unique entry." 1942: Joint Strike's gameplay will resemble the classic 2D style, but the game utilizes a fully 3D engine. Locales, stages, vehicles and weapons will have a WWII look and feel, but have stylistic distinctions, given that the setting is an alternate-world re-imagining of the war. It also features a soundtrack by Metal Gear Solid series composer Norihiko Hibino. Plunder, in development by Certain Affinity -- made up of former Bungie staff -- for a Summer 2008 release, is a real-time multiplayer strategy game where players control pirate ships with the goal of destroying enemy factions and capturing towns. Players can team with either AI-controlled ships or friends for group games. Capcom vice president of marketing Nique Fajors commented, "With Certain Affinity at the helm, Plunder has the makings to be an instant classic for the downloadable games market. Plunder will engross players with its intuitive online multiplayer gameplay, captivating replayablity, and a planned price point that will be lower than most MMO’s monthly dues.” Finally, Capcom has announced that buyers of its forthcoming XBLA shooter Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 will automatically be entered into a beta test for its highly anticipated Xbox Live Arcade hi-def remake of Street Fighter II, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix. Capcom has released no projected dates for any of the titles beyond "this Spring," but promises the beta test for SFII HD will commence "shortly after" the release of Commando 3.
