Canadian publisher Digital Leisure has announced that it is developing a handheld version of its much ported Don Bluth arcade classic Dragon's Lair for the Nintendo DS, featuring a number of unique features including touch screen control and stretched dual-screen video. Digital Leisure promises the handheld version will have "a plethora of unique features while still maintaining the original game play, quality and style of the arcade release." Specifically, the publisher, which continues to release the title on a number of formats, including a new Blu-ray release intended for play on the PlayStation 3, says the game can be played both normally, with video on a single screen, or in 'book-style' dual screen mode with video stretched across both. The game will also support d-pad and touch screen control in both configurations, voice recognition, rumble pak support, and a switch to play in both arcade and home modes, the latter of which contained additional sequences. Finally, in addition to game statistics and a choice of unlimited, standard 5, or sudden death single life modes, the game will offer two difficulty levels, an option to display visual hints, and a watch mode, which will play all game scenes without fear of death. Digital Leisure's release offered no further information on release dates or regions for the handheld update.
