DS Lite Outperforms GBA SP In U.S.

Following reports of low stock across the U.S., Nintendo of America has announced that the new DS Lite consoles has sold more than 136,500 units in the United States in just two days. By comparison, Nintendo points out that this performance is 12 percent better than the launch sales of the Game Boy Advance SP – the second iteration of the original Game Boy Advance. According to Nintendo, sales of Brain Age (aka Brain Training) have tripled over the previous week, with sales of New Super Mario Bros. doubling. The press statement from Nintendo also points out that New Super Mario Bros. was already the number one selling game in the U.S. during May, according to The NPD Group data, despite only being in stores for thirteen days during the reporting period. The publisher also claims that Brain Age is ranked as the third best selling game of May. The new DS Lite console is smaller and lighter than the original model, and features a brighter screen display. Only the Polar White color is currently available in North America, compared to the three colors in Japan and the two scheduled for Europe on June 23rd.
