Emergent Game Technologies has added online multiplayer and networking tools to its Gamebryo LightSpeed development engine, allowing developers to use it in the creation of multiplayer titles. "We are just beginning to unveil the power of LightSpeed’s architecture, and online multiplayer is foundational to the entire system," says Emergent CEO Geoff Selzer. Emergent says that LightSpeed's focus on rapid prototyping extends to tis online capabilities too, promising one-click real-time modifications to online games across all connected clients without the need for restarts and recompiles. LightSpeed's Entity Framework System is the core of its online abilities, says Emergent. The system was developed with a focus on being distributable across a network platform-independently, so that developers can create multiplayer features directly from the start of a project, the company adds. Not only does this mean developers can shop prototypes to publishers with online already included, but it is also intended to speed up the development process in later stages, the company asserts. "Being able to create completely new game objects and to change them rapidly across all target platforms in real-time is a huge timesaver in the development process," says Emergent product VP Doug Kubel. Gamebryo is a cross-platform game development engine toolset designed for current and next-generation game development. LightSpeed is the company's most recent major upgrade geared for real-time feedback and rapid prototyping, iteration and development module-building on the Gamebryo engine. "The Emergent tech team is focused on developing new tools, new technologies and new ways to work within LightSpeed that make developers’ lives easier, so they can rapidly produce prototypes, polish more, and ultimately produce amazing games."
