According to a new statement from Japanese firm Enterbrain, Nintendo's Wii has sold 251,794 units in the territory in May, outselling Sony's PlayStation 3 by an impressive five to one margin. Enterbrain, which publishes Famitsu magazine and operates a separate, more privately-held chart from that of alternative Japanese game chart source Media Create, released the information to Bloomberg News in a faxed statement. The report implies that the sales figure for the PlayStation 3 in May was around 50,000 units in Japan, a disappointing total for Sony. In addition to this new data, the PlayStation 3 also trailed the Wii by four to one in April's Enterbrain sales stat round-up. Though further information on weekly sales is not available for the Enterbrain charts, the most recent Media Create data backs up a ongoing trend that sees Nintendo's latest console continuing to pull away from the more technologically advanced PlayStation 3 in the next-gen hardware stakes for the territory. Enterbrain's data revealed that Nintendo's DS handheld similarly outpaced Sony's PSP for the month, with 620,670 Nintendo DS units sold in Japan in May, as compared to just 123,673 PSPs sold. Finally, according to the Enterbrain report, Microsoft's Xbox 360 console has continued to perform badly in the region, selling just 11,082 of the machines during all of last month.
