The North Carolina Technology Association has recognized Cary, NC-based Epic Games as its "Top Industry Driven Technology Company of the Year." The awards aim to recognize leadership and innovation, and Epic accepted its award at the NCTA's annual gala last night. The award follows Epic's global release Gears of War 2 -- and the 2 million units it sold in its first weekend. But the NCTA says it awarded the company a technology industry award for the "positive impact on the entertainment software industry" of Epic's proprietary tech, Unreal Engine 3. NCTA's 21 Awards program encompasses five categories: technology industry, stage of development, functional, leadership and excellence. Epic's specific recognition as "Top Industry Driven Technology Company" came in the technology industry category. "We’re honored to be recognized by the NCTA as an industry leader in technology," said Dr. Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. "The other nominees are trailblazers in their respective fields -- for a game company like Epic to be singled out as the award winner is very flattering."
