According to date provided by Nintendo Europe officials sales of the GameCube in Europe are approaching the 3 million mark. According to further figures sales of the console increased by 88% over the Christmas period, year-on-year – well above the global average of 70% announced yesterday. At the same time software sales increased by 45%. However, the GameCube is still well behind the PS2 installed user base in Europe, which was recently put at close to 21 million. Comparisons with the Xbox are made difficult because of the lack of figures provided by Microsoft, particularly over the Christmas period. Nintendo officials claim though, that the GameCube was “comfortably” ahead of the Xbox over the Christmas period. These figures should not be confused with those relating solely to the UK, in which the GameCube is still in a poor third place. Source: Nintendo Europe
