Gamasutra is very pleased to announce that it has won the 'Games-Related' category in the 10th Annual Webby Awards, a significant achievement for the CMP Game Group-run site in the competition that the New York Times calls 'the Oscars of the Internet'. Other nominees in the category were CNET Networks' GameSpot (which picked up the audience-voted People's Choice Award), encyclopedic game site MobyGames, IGN Entertainment's GameSpy, and review aggregation site Metacritic, and the full list of Webby winners for this year include special achievement honorees for the founders of Myspace.com, Thomas Friedman, Mark Cuban, The Gorillaz, and Internet co-inventor Dr. Robert Kahn, as well as Webbys for a host of other notable sites, from BBC News to Google Earth. The 10th Annual Webby Awards ceremony will be held on June 12 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. The gala event, hosted by comedian Rob Corddry of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, will showcase the winners' famous five-word acceptance speeches and a lively look back at the Web's evolution during The Webby Awards' first ten years. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization with over 500 members including musician David Bowie, Virgin Group founder Richard Branson, The Body Shop president Anita Roddick, "Simpsons" creator Matt Groening, Naked Chef Jamie Oliver, and fashion designer Max Azria. The Gamasutra editors (editorial director Simon Carless, features editor Quang Hong, assistant editor Frank Cifaldi) and website executive producer Peter Leahy would like to thank all contributors to the website, as well as all readers, for helping us continue to provide quality editorial and definitive information for professionals in the game industry.
