In a Business Wire release, Beyen is reporting that both ads and prices for videogames were significantly higher in the second quater of 2003. According to the release, “Retail ads for all videogames surged 76.6% in the second quarter of 2003 and retail videogame console ads climbed 54.9% in Q2 2003” (year over year), and “More than 40% of console software ads in the second quarter were in the $49.99 price range, up from about a third of such ads in Q1”. The analysis was based on retail advertising drawn from 102 daily newspapers in 85 U.S. metropolitan areas.
