Conference producer Game Path has unveiled four game industry events for 2009, with conferences for independent studios located on both coasts, plus gatherings based around education and investment.
Conference producer Game Path, previous organizer of the Austin Independent Game Conference, is unveiling four game industry events for 2009, focusing on indie games, education and investment. Game Path's Independent Game Conference East is slated for May 7-8 at Northeastern University in Boston, and offers both a technical track aimed at programmers, artists and audio technicians and a business track for executives and marketers. It's focused on offering tips and info for independent studios working with console, iPhone, mobile, flash and web-based platforms. Studios will also have the chance to show their projects to publishers. A related West Coast event, ICG West, is set for August 6-7 at the Marriott Courtyard in Long Beach, focused largely on iPhone and mobile development, but also offering console and web-based sessions. Like the IGC East, it will divide into two tracks for both technical and business personnel, and will feature a similar demo night. On June 16-17, Game Path will stage a Game Education Summit for the second year at Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center in Pittsburgh. The event is designed to assemble academics, administrators and industry professionals to discuss game programs at universities and colleges. Finally, Game Path's Investment Conference will take place at East Palo Alto's Four Seasons on September 10-11, aiming to unite investors and venture capital firms with development talent seeking funds. On one track, investors will learn about business models for video games, and a second track will focus on investment options. Conference director Mark Chuberka explains, "The sessions will be designed to give developers very specific assistance with their current projects, events where they can talk to other studios with the same issues and network."
