Officials from leading European video game retailer Game have announced that same store sales have fallen 14% in the first twenty-two weeks of its financial year, ended July 3. Despite this the company expects a satisfactory outcome for the full year, in the light of a strong multi-format Christmas line-up. The company pointed to the launch of the Game Boy Advance SP as creating a unusually buoyant first half year result in the same period last year and expected that recent reductions in console sales would stimulate demand in the coming months. Controversially though the company said it also expects further price cuts in the autumn that would see the PlayStation 2 and Xbox both selling at around £100 ($185). No such price cut though has been announced or even hinted at by either manufacturer. Source: Reuters
