Pixelux and Emergent have announced a middleware partnership that will see Pixelux's Digital Molecular Matter tech integrated into Gamebryo and Gamebryo Lightspeed development platform products. DMM simulates real-world materials and the physics surrounding them, allowing for deformation, breaking, and other interactions. Developer and publisher LucasArts actively publicized the features of Pixelux's tech when promoting last year's Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Through the integration with Gamebryo, developers will have access to a DMM plugin and multiple samples to use as a starting point, plus an interactive environment in which to build breakable and bendable objects within Gamebryo's SDK. "The integration with DMM will allow LightSpeed and Gamebryo users to create fantastic content for their games," promises Emergent VP of partners John Austin. "We can't wait to see what our customers will build with this technology."
