Turbo Squid portal GameFlood has announced a new mod and mapmaking contest, promising $25,000 in cash and prizes for the top creations as judged both by the community and a "distinguished panel," running from May 29 to June 16. Prizes in the contest will be awarded to the best submissions in the following categories: Best FPS Multiplayer Mod; Best FPS Multiplayer Map; Best RTS Multiplayer Mod; Best RTS Multiplayer Map; Best RPG Mod (Single or Multiplayer). Community voting is set to take place from July 2 to 16, with the top 10 winners going on to the industry judge panel for voting between July 16 and 23. The winners of the contest will receive a respective $3000, $1000, and $500 for the main categories, while the Mini-Mod first prize winners will receive $500. All winners will also receive "high-end keyboards" provided by Logitech. Turbo Squid has previously said the GameFlood portal and platform will "dramatically improve the experience for players of add-on content, while also serving to bridge the gap between 3D modelers, add-on developers, and game publishers." The portal promises a "secure hosting environment" playing and trading mods and maps for a number of the top PC games, including Half-Life 2, Unreal Tournament 2004, Counter Strike: Source, Oblivion, Prey, and Age of Empires -- all of which are just a few of the games available for mod contest submissions. Said Turbo Squid CEO Matthew Wisdom, “This contest announcement is a concrete expression of our vision for providing PC gamers and developers with the most comprehensive community platform to play, create, and distribute the most exciting PC add-on content available. The contest is our way of giving something back to developers and innovators of the mod and map making industry and others who are impassioned by extending the life of the finest PC titles in the world.” More information on the contest guidelines and rules can be found via the contest's official site.
