GameFly Requests Shrouded In Darkness, 360

This week's top rental charts from U.S. game rental company GameFly, representing the most requested games for the week ending June 18, highlight both to-be-released and already released games in a unique demand-specific chart. Last week's top title, Ubisoft's Western themed Xbox 360 shooter Call of Juarez fell two spots this week to rank as the third most requested title among GameFly subscribers, still no small accomplishment for a lesser known title, given that Microsoft's own futuristic shooter Shadowrun fell to a distant fifth for the period. The week's top title was Take Two's comic book inspired Darkness, also for the Xbox 360, while Codemasters' next-gen off road driving game DiRT, which brings the company's popular Colin McRae franchise to the Xbox 360 on June 19, continued to be a fan favorite in second place overall. What follows is a break down of the top titles requested by GameFly subscribers across each of the major platforms: Xbox 360 1. Darkness (Take Two), 2. DiRT (Codemasters), 3. Call of Juarez (Ubisoft), 4. Overlord (Codemasters), 5. Shadowrun (Microsoft). Once again it was Xbox 360 current and upcoming releases that accounted for all of the top requested titles among GameFly subscribers. Darkness, developed by Starbreeze, was the top requested title, and is expected to ship for both the Xbox 360 and PS3 later this month. The game is based on Top Cow's comic book about Jackie Estacado, the Don of the Franchetti Family mob who is able to wield an ancient demonic power. Nintendo Wii 1. Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree (Nintendo), 2. Resident Evil 4 (Capcom), 3. Mario Party 8 (Nintendo), 4. Super Paper Mario (Nintendo), 5. Pokemon Battle Revolution (Nintendo). Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Nintendo's motion sensitive collection of mental challenges for the Wii, took top honors for the week among Wii owners, managing to dethrone Capcom's hotly anticipated Wii port of Resident Evil 4. However, with the survival horror title expected to ship this week, and early reviews already offering high praise, this game may yet find its way back on top soon enough. PlayStation 3 1. Darkness (Take Two), 2. Ninja Gaiden Sigma (Tecmo), 3. Rainbow Six: Vegas (Ubisoft), 4. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (Take Two), 5. Transformers: The Game (Activision). Mirroring that of its rival Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3's chart was likewise topped by Take Two's upcoming Darkness, as the comic book adaptation even managed to be too much for Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden Sigma, which fell into second place for the week. PlayStation 2 1. God of War II (Sony), 2. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 2 (Namco), 3. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (Take Two), 4. Tomb Raider: Anniversary (Eidos), 5. Transformers: The Game (Activision). PlayStation 2 requests performed more or less as expected for the week, with God of War II and Naruto continuing to hold onto the top two spots respectively. It was perhaps a bit surprising to see interest wane so early over the upcoming Transformers movie adaptation, which fell a couple spots to take fifth, behind Eidos' critically lauded Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Xbox 1. Halo 2 (Microsoft), 2. Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II (LucasArts), 3. Star Wars: Republic Commando (LucasArts), 4. Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy (LucasArts), 5. Ninja Gaiden Black (Tecmo). With the original Xbox seemingly being all but forgotten in the wake of the Xbox 360, players have continued to turn to old standbys, with last week's Xbox chart remaining nearly unchanged. Halo 2 is still the top requested Xbox title for GameFly users, and the only change from last week saw Scarface: The World Is Yours fall from fifth to a distant eighth place, instead replaced by Tecmo's Ninja Gaiden Black. GameCube 1. Surf's Up (Ubisoft), 2. Ratatouille (THQ), 3. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Nintendo), 4. Mario Party 7 (Nintendo), 5. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness (Nintendo). In what could be seen as the end of an era, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has finally been knocked out of the top spot among GameCube requests, where it had dominated for months on end. The title fell to third place for the week, outdone by a pair of upcoming new titles for the console in kid friendly movie adaptations of Surf's Up and Ratatouille. Nintendo DS 1. Sim City DS (Electronic Arts), 2. Pokemon Diamond (Nintendo), 3. Pokemon Pearl (Nintendo), 4. Planet Puzzle League (Nintendo), 5. Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon (Natsume). Electronic Arts' Sim City DS was once more the top requested Nintendo DS title for the week, while Nintendo's own Pokemon Diamond and Pearl rounded out the handheld's top three for the week. Rune Factory: A Fantasy Harvest Moon, a title that currently is without any sort of firm release date outside of 'sometime in 2007' was the fifth most requested DS title for the week. Game Boy Advance 1. Pokemon: Emerald (Nintendo), 2. Pokemon: Leaf Green (Nintendo), 3. Pokemon: Fire Red (Nintendo), 4. Pokemon: Ruby (Nintendo), 5. Pokemon: Sapphire (Nintendo). The Game Boy Advance chart changed only slightly from last week, with Pokemon: Leaf Green and Fire Red swapping spots in terms of subscriber popularity. Otherwise, the chart was again controlled by Nintendo's Pokemon franchise, with Pokemon: Emerald taking the top spot for the week, followed byPokemon: Fire Red and other color-coded series entries. PlayStation Portable 1. Final Fantasy (Square Enix), 2. Rainbow Six: Vegas (Ubisoft), 3. Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters (Sony), 4. Transformers (Activision), 5. Tomb Raider: Anniversary (Eidos). As was the case last week, and will probably up until the title's June 26 debut, Final Fantasy Anniversary Edition continued to top all PSP requests for the week, followed again by Ubisoft's Rainbow Six: Vegas. The PSP version of Tomb Raider: Anniversary, also shipping on June 26, rounded out the week's top five for Sony's handheld.
