Internet-based independent games developer and publisher GarageGames has announced the release of the RTS Starter Kit, for developers using the Torque Game Engine across Windows, Linux and OS X platforms. Providing a number of modifications to the Torque Game Engine, the RTS Starter Kit is aimed at making it easier for independent developers to produce their own strategy games. The Torque Game Engine itself has been used on a number of indie PC/Mac/Linux gaming projects, including: ThinkTanks Airborne, Marble Blast, Distant Towers, Metal Drift and Orbz, and Torque Engine games were recently rolled out into arcades as part of the FlexArcade gaming system. The RTS Starter Kit add-on has a customized camera system, an RTS-Unit class, an RTS-Building class, and a scripting interface allowing buildings to receive commands, and requires users to also own the Torque Game Engine to utilize it.
